Wave 1 | Prompt 1: A tumultuous region prone to natural disasters
Type: Geography / Location
While I’ve gotten most of my geography down, it’s mainly major locations and a few specifics, like the Shatterscale Mountains. So this shouldn’t be a hard one to do, I can already think of a couple of areas.
I had an idea for this prompt, but unfortunately it was the wrong article type. The idea I thought was going to be a geographical region, but it turned out to actually be a settlement. None the less, I still wrote the article about the city called Glimmertide.
Glimmertide city had all the right aspects for the prompt, a region prone to natural disasters, using the recently made Hardwater Rain with the rare event of Crystalline Hail. But the one part that wasn’t correct was the article type; it needed to be a geographical location and I kind of wanted this to be a city. I still created the article, and this actually turned out to be the second settlement created for my world.
I had to go looking for a new location I hadn’t created already, specifically for this prompt. I noticed a little island in the middle of the ocean, east of the Shattered Archipelagos. I decided to craft that island into something.
I was going through my list of names, and just as quickly as I came across Glimmertide I noticed a name I had written some time ago in the geographical names section: Scalenova. I actually switched the words around right as I was about to create the page; I thought Novascale would sound better.
The island, a vast expanse of land, has its origins in the gradual awakening of a dormant volcano over an extended period. Its terrain is characterized by rocky outcrops, black soil, and sandy beaches, a testament to its volcanic beginnings. Erosion has been steadily reshaping the island as it diminishes in size, a process hastened by the waning volcanic activity that originally formed it.
I loved the name of the island and decided to create a species of dragonkin with the same name, which would exclusively inhabit this island. Or rather, it’s only homelands, as they can fly long distances and be seen elsewhere. This exotic landscape felt to me like it would be a perfect place for the exotic, idyllic appearance of the iridescent blue scales and purple eyes of a species of amphithere. The same species of the character Sphyii, written for the prompt: A character who goes through a great change.
These creatures, like all amphitheres, possess an elongated serpentine body similar to that of a snake, lacking legs or arms, and are equipped with two or more wings.
Novascales have wings that are nearly as long as their bodies, making them capable of impressive aerial feats and long flight travel.
Novascale amphitheres are only native to the Novascale Island, though they do travel elsewhere and can be seen as far as Ardenfell and Arkynshire.
You can learn more about the character of this species, Sphyii.
