Wave 1 | Prompt 2: An environmental or other large-scale natural disaster
Type: Natural Law
I had a little idea a few days ago for an already existing location. I’m thinking I can add more to it, in this case, an environmental disaster that can happen.
Crystal Rain! Yeah, sounds pretty damaging. Actually, it’s relatively fine and is actually just called “Hardwater Rain”. There are a lot of minerals in the rain that were picked up from the evaporating waters in the Glistening Medows, so when it rains, those minerals deposit and make tiny flaky crystals. It’s more of a mess than anything.
It is sometimes called “Crystal Rain” due to the specific crystals that form from the rain. This is different than other hardwater and hardwater mineral buildup, like limescale.
Sometimes, when hardwater rainfall occurs, under specific conditions, if the minerals start to crystallize while still aloft, these crystals can refract and reflect sunlight. This will create a rainbow effect that spreads out in all directions.
The dangerous part is when it becomes an intense storm, where instead of regular hail, it makes crystalline hail. This is much harder and does not break on impact as easily.
This really only happens in the south end of Emberland and in northern Dragon’s Tail because of the wind currents. It can also, however, sometimes precipitate anywhere along the leeward side of the Shatterscale Mountains along the river.
What a fantasy-sounding thing, huh? Just a little idea I had while writing for this prompt. Sounds like a very interesting phenomenon, especially the scattered rainbow effect!
