Wave 2 | Prompt 6: A personal item that keeps you safe

Technically speaking I had written this article before the event started, but there was little information there that I could reset the date so I could use it.
I thought of several items that already existed that I could use for the prompt but decided to go with the Dragonscale Shield. The other option I was considering was the Shortlance, but I had more history I could write out for the shield since creating the Draconian War.
And what a more perfect item that “keeps you safe” than a shield! I know I don’t have to be that literal and straightforward with these prompts, as I have been for several of them, but it makes it easy and works out in the end anyway.
The Dragonscale Shield is a formidable piece of armor crafted from the durable scaleplate of the legendary Wyrm of Chaos. Despite originating from a wyrm rather than a traditional dragon, the scaleplate is large and sturdy enough to be repurposed as a shield for human use. Its resilience and imposing appearance have earned it the popular moniker of the Dragonscale Shield.
During the final battle of the Draconian War, the formidable warrior Draco Null, aided by several powerful Ancient Dragonkin, executed a daring maneuver to sever a scaleplate from the Wyrm of Chaos. This audacious feat exposed a vulnerable spot at the base of the wyrm's neck, as borewyrm scaleplates are incapable of regenerating.
Draco kept the scaleplate and used it as a shield until his passing. It is still on display at the Dragonguard’s headquarters. Although it is occasionally utilized for its original purpose, it’s heavy and cumbersome making it impractical for regular use.
