Wave 1 | Prompt 5: A document that changed the course of history.
Type: Document
Wave 1 | Prompt 7: A conflict that involved a changing environment.
Type: Conflict
I decided to put these two prompts into one post since they both go together.
The Draconian War was fought to end the Wyrm of Chaos’ tyranny in the world. As a result, the Draconian Concord was created to instill that Ancient Dragonkin are not and should not be a threat to humankind and their dragonkin companions. And if it were to happen again, there would be consequences for the individual(s) actions.
This is kind of a draconian Geneva Convention of sorts.
I had the idea of some war or battle resulting in the document being created for a while, but I didn’t write it out until this prompt came along. The idea of the Wyrm of Chaos causing problems back in the day was practically there from the start of this series, hence his name.
The idea for the Draconian Concord came to me when I was trying to come up with the taxonomic ranks for the different dragonkin families. I randomly came across something called the “Draconian Consitution”, and thought it sounded cool, so I wrote it down. Finally, I saw the writing prompt about a document that changed the course of history and immediately thought about this. Technically speaking, I started working on the document before the event began, but I updated the article's date so I could use it for the Summer Camp event.
I didn’t want to use “Constitution” in the name, as it does not fit. This was more of a Geneva Conventions type of thing, which I did use to inspire this document, along with a few pirate codes. So, instead, I called it a kind of “Code of Conduct” or “Creed” at first. However, I never really felt like that word stuck. When the time came to submit the article for the prompt, I looked around for a similar word that would work better. Thanks to OneLook thesaurus and reverse dictionary, I found the word “Concord” and liked that one much better.
I wrote a general overview of the document on the main article page, but there’s also the actual document itself, in all its glorious legalese wording. Check it out here, if you want to read the actual document. Note, however, that it has not yet been completed.
The document is actually written in the Ancient Dragonkin language, as well as in English for the humans. The original resides in Dragonspire, while the copy for the humans resides in the Dragonguard’s headquarters.
The end of the war and creation of this document takes place about 100 years before the current events of the novel in the year 1001.
Subsequently, when creating these two things, I also created a new character. Draco Null, the founder of the Dragonguard Alliance. His full name is actually Draco Ragnarr Gorian Null, making his initials D.R.G.N. Pretty badass, isn’t it?
During the war, Draco fought the Wyrm of Chaos himself, managing to tear off one of his plated scales at the base of his neck. Draco kept this as a trophy, and is displayed in the Dragonguard's headquarters as the Dragonscale Shield. He was also one of the co-authors of the Draconian Concord after the Draconian War had ended.
His name and large build were inspired by Drago Bludvist from How to Train Your Dragon. The name was originally going to be “Skuld” after looking through a random name generator. I changed it to Draco after realizing I could make his initials be
”DRGN” if I added two middle names. And what cooler name to use for this than Draco?
