Wave 4 | Prompt 1: A recently created title or honor.
Type: Rank/Title
First off, I’d like to mention that I’m sponsoring this prompt; it’s my first time! The winner will get a $50 (USD) gift code to the World Anvil shop! :)
Anyway, answering my own prompt, I had an idea at 7:30 a.m. while I was at work to write about how characters in my world receive a “Legend Name”.
A Legend, or Legend Name, is an informal yet powerful title conferred upon individuals whose actions and contributions resonate profoundly across the globe. The designation of "legend" does not inherently imply that the individual embodies virtuous qualities; rather, it signifies that they have left an incredible mark on history, culture, or society and are widely recognized for it.
It’s pretty much like people who have gone “viral” and are known for a thing they did. However, only the Ancient Dragonkin have names associated with them. Humans and their non-ancient dragonkin are just known by their real names.
The appointment of a legend name is informal and may often go unrecognized by the individual who receives such a title. The Dragonguard keeps a meticulous record.
There isn’t any organization that gives legend status or names; it just kind of happens. The fastest way for someone to be recognized as a legend is most likely through the Dragonguard, because of its global presence.
The concept of legend names did not emerge until near the end of the Twenty Year Scourge.
Long before humans knew of the existence of Ancient Dragonkin, the first individual to be informally bestowed with a legend name was Anaq, famously known as the Wyrm of Chaos. His infamous tactics, solidified his reputation among both allies and foes.
The Wyrm of Chaos is an ass. (Not a donkey.)
As the Draconian War erupted in full force, the populace began to informally assign the Ancient Dragonkin allies legend names — titles that reflected their valor and contributions, given that few knew their true names.
At the time, people didn’t know their new Ancient allies actually had names, so they gave them a legend name. After the war, the Ancients embraced their given names, welcoming the recognition. They have since been immortalized in history by these names.
