Wave 3 | Prompt 7: A leader or high-ranking person in an organization
Type: Rank/Title
Despite having a couple of organizations, this wasn’t as easy as I thought. I wanted it to be somewhat unique but not too far fantasy-sounded, like “dragonlord” or something. I spent a while trying to come up with a rank title for the leader of the Dragonguard Alliance. I also had to take into account the organization’s structure, as there are permanent positions for the Alliance, which are more administrative, and then there are the soldiers themselves, who are from their own regions but can be summoned. Kind of something like NATO, in a way.
The permanent “officer” type ranks are for when enough of them are summoned that there could be potential overlapping ranks, and these permanent officer ranks in the Alliance ensure that it is clear who is the commanding officer of the division.
I was looking for a name to use for the leader of the Dragonguard, but I didn’t really just want to simply do “general” or “admiral” or something. I used an AI generator to assist with creating names. I wasn't satisfied with the generated names but found some parts helpful.
One of the ones that came up was “Archon” (which apparently means “leader” in Greek or something). I thought it sounded alright, so I created the rank “Archon of the Dragonguard".
In the Dragonguard Alliance, the highest ranking official is known as the Archon. As the highest authority figure, the Archon is responsible for issuing directives to all the military units operating within the alliance. Furthermore, the Archon plays a crucial role in the council or board of directors, contributing to strategic decision-making processes.
In addition to these responsibilities, the Archon also assumes the vital task of overseeing the alliance's military operations, ensuring that all activities align with the alliance's objectives and values. It's noteworthy that the Archon exercises direct control over all units except the Dragonguard Sentinels.
I chose “Archon of the Dragonguard” as it was something kind of akin to the “Seargent Major of the Army” type of rank name. You can just call the rank “Archon”.
The Archon is actually on the Board of Directors; aside from overseeing military operations within the organization, they also actively participate in voting and strategizing on matters concerning conflict affairs and the overall direction of the organization.
If there is a major conflict, multiple Board of Directors will be present, not just the Archon; all Board of Directors are combat trained. This also means that the rest of the Board of Directors cannot vote if some directors are absent, as most matters require a 3/4 majority vote.
Getting the Position
There are a few qualifications and requirements needed for obtaining the position.
The qualifications for this position include completing advanced training in flying and meeting all necessary requirements.
In order to be considered for this position, the candidate must have served as an Alliance Officer for a minimum of 6 years, must meet the physical fitness requirements for combat, must satisfy all qualifications specified for the role, and must be appointed by the Board of Directors with a 3/4 majority vote.
The term "Alliance Officer" refers to someone holding one of the "permanent positions" within the Dragonguard. Since the Alliance is divided into separate regions, there are specific permanent positions, such as the Board of Directors. These permanent positions are responsible for overseeing the entire organization, calling upon regions within the Alliance, and appointing an officer to lead when multiple regions are called to action and there are overlapping ranks.
In order to appoint someone into this position, a 3/4 majority vote from the rest of the board of directors is required. In order to appoint someone into this position, a 3/4 majority vote from the rest of the board of directors is required.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
There may be instances where you need to remove the current Archon, perhaps due to corruption, insanity, or any other reason.
In order to remove the current Archon of the Dragonguard and appoint a new one, a unanimous vote must be made by the rest of the board of directors.
In doing so, the Dragonguard Sentinels will escort the former Archon out of the building. If necessary, they may also be authorized to arrest the individual.
